Dubai, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar will open the Indonesian Pavilion at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023 (COP28) in Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Thursday (30/11/2023) at 10:30 local time UAE. Also present on the occasion, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian MPR Lestari Moerdijat who will give an opening remark.
“The plan is that we will hold it tomorrow,” said the Director General of Sustainable Forest Management of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry as the Person in Charge of the Indonesian Pavilion, Agus Justianto, in a media briefing at the Indonesian Pavilion on Wednesday (29/11/2023). “And of course we hope that through the Indonesian Pavilion, it will not only be attended by Indonesians, but also by all participants, both foreigners and Indonesians,” he continued.
According to Agus, there are three objectives of the Indonesian Pavilion. First, as a form of soft diplomacy to voice Indonesia’s strategies and innovations to the international world as a concrete form of leading climate action together. Second, to promote climate change control programs by the Indonesian government with all relevant parties in a constructive, integrative, and collaborative manner.
“Third, to open opportunities for all parties to explore ideas, opportunities, and work networks in the context of strengthening climate change control efforts by Indonesia,” said Agus.
There are several activities in the Indonesian Pavilion, including talk show sessions featuring the latest developments in climate change control efforts that have been and are being carried out by various parties. Then there will be joint sessions as a discussion session with strategic partners and friendly countries of Indonesia, and eminent person sessions where materials will be presented by world figures in the field of climate change control.
Agus added that the Indonesian Pavilion will also be a platform for various bilateral meetings. There will also be art and cultural performances as a platform to promote Indonesian culture to the global community, as well as exhibitions/displays of Indonesian actions that will be presented both offline and online.
“We also have a concept related to COP28, which is discussion sessions that can be attended by 60 people. On the upper floor, there is a mini stage for non-discussion activities. There is also a videotron (showing climate action promotion video clips with a maximum duration of 1 minute), and a globe that provides information related to what is being done in the context of climate action in Indonesia.”
“The theme of the Indonesian Pavilion is in accordance with the COP 28 theme. It’s time to Unite, Act, Deliver. Indonesia’s Climate Actions: Inspiring The World,” said Agus.
The theme is then divided into four sub-themes, namely:
a. Stronger New Renewable Energy Commitment
b. Robust Climate Actions on Land Based Sectors
c. Inspiring Finance and Technology Innovations
d. Solid Collaborative Climate Actions for The Prosperity of People
“From what we have designed, we have collected various inputs from all parties, so that at COP28, Indonesia’s talk show session set a record. We organized a total of 77 sessions from the beginning to the end, involving 379 speakers,” said Agus.
Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar emphasized the urgency of the Indonesian Pavilion at COP 2023.
“The Indonesian Pavilion also confirms the things that will be the substance of the negotiations (at COP28),” said Siti in the same opportunity.
She cited examples of climate change adaptation and mitigation carried out by Indonesia.
“Inside the Indonesian Pavilion, in the many discussions by various Indonesian members, it actually confirms the work of the Indonesian people, this is the greatness of the Indonesian society,” said Siti.
