President Prabowo Subianto recently expressed his confidence in Indonesia’s ability to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in a timely manner, positioning the country as a trailblazer in this important milestone. During a virtual conference focusing on the launch of renewable energy projects and the expansion of oil production in East Java, Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s proficiency in energy generation and emphasized the reduction of expensive logistics chains. He stressed the significance of energy independence in Indonesia’s quest for national sovereignty, outlining the government’s plan to introduce 55 new renewable energy initiatives, including geothermal power plants, to deliver clean, dependable, and efficient energy throughout the vast archipelago.
The President commended the collaborative efforts of various ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy companies like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil for their support in Indonesia’s energy transition. While recognizing the country’s abundant oil and gas resources, Prabowo underscored the critical role of renewable energy, particularly solar power, in ensuring energy self-reliance for communities nationwide. With an optimistic outlook for Indonesia’s future, he hailed solar energy as a beacon of hope for villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands, asserting that by harnessing renewable energy sources, Indonesia can pave the way for a brighter and more sustainable tomorrow.
